本剧讲述了1850年代淘金热期间，华裔澳大利亚人不为人知的经历。故事以真实事件为灵感，发生在1957年澳大利亚维多利亚州的巴拉瑞特。在那里，欧洲人、中国人和澳洲原住民（包含澳大利亚土著人和托雷斯海峡岛民）共同生活在一个西部边陲的小镇上，他们试图通过淘金致富。一名白人女性在此地遭 到谋杀，对凶手的追捕在不同群体间掀起了轩然大波。

Brad Pitt制片公司Plan B Entertainment过去宣布为Amazon开发新剧《外围 Outer Range》，这部惊悚剧由Brian Watkins负责，剧集讲述一名待在怀俄明州荒野的牧场主因为发现这儿隐藏着谜团，紧接着他决心为了自己土地及家人而战。Josh Brolin加盟剧组，饰演主角Royal Abbott。

Starz剧集《古战场传奇》还在拍摄第4季，如今就正式宣布一连续订第5、6两季，毕竟收视率很好。新续订的两季各有12集，预计2019和2020年播出，依次会基于原作小说《异乡人》系列中的《血十字》和《雪尘的呼吸》。而且这两季后，小说还有两本没拍完，现在作者Diana Gabaldon还在写一本新的，所以第6季很可能也不是该剧终点。
